Head of College, Professor Rory Medcalf
Professor Rory Medcalf has been Head of the National Security College at the Australian National University since January 2015.
He has led the expansion of the College into policy engagement and futures analysis, in addition to its core work in education, executive development and research.
His professional background involves almost three decades of experience across diplomacy, intelligence, think tanks and journalism, including as inaugural Director of the International Security Program at the Lowy Institute.

Our academic staff are part of a research-intensive university that facilitates collaborative, multi-disciplinary teaching and research on national security.
Professional staff
Professional staff provide advice, administration and support for all College activities. The team includes ANU officers and seconded officials from a range of Australian Government departments.

NSC doctoral candidates are part of a vibrant research community and outstanding program of support provided by recognised researchers and professionals in the field.

Visitors to the College are recognised national and international experts who contribute directly to the College’s research, teaching and policy engagement activities.
Leadership and governance
The College’s Advisory Board includes at least four representatives from ANU (including the Vice-Chancellor of the University) and five representatives from the Commonwealth Government.
