Course overview
This stimulating three-week program provides participants with in-depth exposure to the full range of issues and challenges facing Australia’s national security community. It focuses on strategic thinking, critical analysis, policy-making, partnership-building and adaptive leadership principles. Participants will engage in rich dialogue with prominent thought leaders and senior practitioners in the field, and can expect to form strong and lasting professional networks with counterparts from across the sector. To enrich the learning experience, there is a domestic study tour and other site visits. The program equips participants to better understand and enhance their role in navigating uncertainty and effectively shaping national security policy and practice.
Executive Level 2 (EL2) officers (or equivalent) working in both traditional and non-traditional national security agencies and departments who are involved in policy, strategic planning, capability development, operations or coordination will benefit from this program. State and territory officers, and senior managers from the private sector, are encouraged to nominate. A minimum SECRET (NV1) security clearance is required for this program.
Past presenters for this program include: Professor Admiral (RET) Chris Barrie, Professor Rory Medcalf, Professor John Blaxland, Associate Professor Meg Keen, Dr Jennifer Hunt, Dr Lesley Seebeck, Mr Stephen Merchant and others.
“I found the NSC EL2 Development program the most rewarding course I have undertaken in my APS career. The National Security College is a first class national institution and I am extremely proud and honoured to be a member of the NSC Alumni.”
